Three examples of photo manipulation
This post is actually three specials for the same person. So these three examples of photo manipulation show what kind of stuff people ask to have done. Far be it for me to ask why, but it’s all good fun, right?
If you too want to be seen sitting on a mushroom.
… or you want to have a picture of yourself on a sandy beach with palm trees.
Whatever you want, there isn’t much you can’t do with a little help from the Digital Photo Doctor!
On the dance floor
The first picture came with a request to take the subject and place her on a dance floor.
The biggest difficulty here was actually finding an appropriate picture to use.
One has to take the angle of the shot for the subject and also the angle of the shot for the dance floor. If the two aren’t at least similar, it’s likely that the finished result will look weird. I’ve seen it before, where someone’s placed someone or something into a shot without considering this and it’s odd.
So, the first job was to remove her from her surroundings and get rid of what she was holding in her left hand.
With some internet sleuthing, I came across a picture of an empty dance floor and used that.
The only extra thing done in this was to add a shadow on the floor, to seat her in the picture better.
Deep in the forest
The second of these pictures was to be in a forest scene. Again, sourcing the image was actually more difficult than actually placing the subject.
The best thing about this one was the specificity of the background she’d requested. Some people just say, “change it,” or “a different background, please.” This puts the onus on me and can make for a lot of work if it wasn’t what the client had in mind.
So, please remember if you’re considering having something like this done, you need to be specific.
Sitting on a shroom
The final picture in this trio, is one where the girl wasn’t quite so specific. The request just to change the background and what she was sitting on was too much of a temptation for me, so I created a scene where she was sitting on a toadstool.
There was very little else to do on this other than to add shade and shadow where necessary.
